#697 - "Further Diminishment"

An excellent puzzle written by one of the innovators of the meta crossword format. It comes out every Friday at noon and increases in difficulty throughout the month. Available for modest subscription (worth every cent) here: www.xwordcontest.com

Beam me up as well. Since it took me less than two minutes to solve after completing the grid, I expect a crowded ship again this week.

Easily beamed up but had IRL stuff to do, so didn’t get in until after 2 pm.

Tough grid, meta answer submitted and pending confirmation. This was a fun one!

Agree with all those bemoaning difficulty of MMMM!

Solved and submitted. Awaiting confirmation. Found the grid challenging, but the meta came quickly. Have a great weekend everyone.

So, I now know what a deal table is, learned a new synonym for stag party, that "clew" can be "clue", and that Neil Armstrong probably derived his famous quote from Flaubert and Doyle. Oh, and that some famous bank heists were just copycats. :-) (Read that Red-Headed story).

Beamed up.

I LOVE 1A. I thought I was solving Pun of a Kind for a fleeting moment.

As opposed to preposition abuse? :-)

that's a week 1 meta, not a week 2.

On the board - agree with others that the grid was tougher than the meta.
If you see that I’ve completed the MGWCC meta, feel free to DM me and I’ll help you out - nudges, confirmations of paths, etc.

I read this and went back and read the writeup and it did help.

I did the puzzle right away on Friday, but I didn't try for the meta until this morning - I guess I am not a first page type of guy. I must not have looked for the meta on Friday because now it jumped out at me instantly (with the help of reading the week 1 writeup to point me in a general direction).

I totally crashed and burned on this one. I looked up the prefix for trillion and it gave me tera-, not pico-. Grrr! Oh well.
