#693 - "Picture This" by Alex Boisvert

An excellent puzzle written by one of the innovators of the meta crossword format. It comes out every Friday at noon and increases in difficulty throughout the month. Available for modest subscription (worth every cent) here: www.xwordcontest.com

Submitted, not yet confirmed but confident. Given the title and prompt I thought it was going to be COLORED PENCILS again.

I wonder how many of the quicksolvers got it just by filling in the grid.

A late start, but a quick solve. My kudos to Alex for a very inventive meta.

Submitted, as usual, right after a leaderboard update. So awaiting beam-up, but quite confident.

This was fun! Thanks, Alex. And thanks also for the fun stuff on the website, like the achievements.

Has everyone noticed that new ones show up from time to time? I’m currently missing 4. Will probably never get 1-across. The two Halloween ones seem iffy - need to solve the week 5 in two days, and if I do happen to get it sooner, remember to wait til Sunday to submit.

Fairly confident I got this one, but last update was 8 min ago so will have to wait to make sure…
If you see that I’ve completed the MGWCC meta, feel free to DM me and I’ll help you out - nudges, confirmations of paths, etc.

Beam me up! (Pretty sure.) I solved the grid on my phone while I was out today, but didn't get a chance to consider the meta until a short while ago. Very nice!

This took me a while to see, but then it suddenly snapped into focus. Once I get it, I like to explain how it works to my wife. This time I told her the meta prompt first, and she immediately guessed the correct answer.

It's another one of those times where I think I'm on the right track, but I'm not getting anything solid. Hm.

On the board. I was befuddled on Thursday and Friday. Saturday morning, I was finally able to let my mind wander down the right path, like in Fixing A Hole.

Solved with a big assist from Significant Other Mark, who got the right strategy within literally a minute of looking at the puzzle. Guess who will be paying for dinner tonight!
Good luck, fellow Muggles!

Wouldn’t have gotten this one without a huge kick in the pants from another muggle……clever!
