#691 - “Synonyms & Antonym”

#1

Post by Joe Ross »

Week 4 of 4.

This week’s contest answer is a 6-letter word.

SPECIAL SOLVING NOTE: The clues to the six theme entries in this puzzle each contain a 'not equal to' sign (≠). These signs exist on the .PDF and .JPZ, but if you are solving on the .PUZ file they will appear as question marks instead due to limitations of the software. So just be aware if you’re solving the .PUZ that those six question marks are, in fact, not equal to signs.

Solved and submitted - awaiting confirmation.
Edit - that was fast. Confirmed (#8)

(Feel a bit like Odd Christian Eiking at the moment - atop the leaderboards before the mountains hit and the real leaders charge to the front.)

Especially as the top 11 are what you can see on the home page frame without scrolling!

I have an answer but it seems too easy for week 4. Going to ponder during online bridge. Will submit if I get a final click.

EDIT: Pondered and submitted. Now the waiting...

Number 23 -- I'll take it.
I think last week's meta was harder, at least for me.

In the write-up, last week was 192 solves while this week is predicted (by Gaffney's consigliere) at 308.
Sounds like the expectation is that this week plays a bit easier than last week.

Matt promises pizza and Coke for all if there are exactly 308 solves as his consigliere would have had three correct guesses in a row (422, 192, 308 solves).

Solved - a nice little streak-saver. As somebody gunning for my first "10", I'll take it.

Refresh…….refresh……c’mon Matt and do your update! Just flip a few toggles just like Sulu.
On the board. I’ve always wondered how the ship was steered by flipping switches, and why did Kirk have to always sign that thing in a box? Was it an invoice??

It took me a while to get the hang of this one, but then it was pretty fun! I felt it was on the easier side for a week 4 (obvious theme entries!) but the leaderboard is still lowish (#53 five hours after release), so maybe not.

(Crashed and burned on last week's, as I had completely forgotten that the TV show "thirtysomething" existed, and Google didn't remind me :-)
