Wow! I think I am ashore after many weeks of struggling. Today's was like a light bulb going off. Gave me memories of my aunt who taught me how to do crosswords and she did them religiously through the 80's, but quit in the 90's when she was in her nineties because, "They have too many clues about computers!" She would love that many of us now debate how much we should use the computer. This was fun....probably because I think I got it. We'll see.

Memories of Mom. Thank you, Dennis.
Congratulations to all ashore and for everyone else who will surely join the shorebirds soon.

Made it ashore. Solution was easy but did have to look things up before getting it. Solved with the help of my daughter Emma. We are both enjoying a Guinness at the tiki bar.

I'm loving reading all these comments where people are thanking their teachers for "making" them read Shakespeare... it reminded me of one time when mother got like 15 copies of a Shakespeare play and set up chairs in the backyard, collected up a bunch of our neighborhood pals (who were usually at our house anyway), and we all took a role and read it aloud. What a blast. I had completely forgotten about that until one of those neighborhood kids brought it up to us at her wake.

Oh. My. God. My head swam trying to follow the logic to the solution here. I am amazed that anyone got it. I don't subscribe to MGWCC but I've read enough in this forum about the contest to understand that this puzzle was controversially difficult. Nonetheless, I think I'll stick to the shallow end of the pool for a while longer. Especially given the slump I'm in so far this year. (For the record, I'm on shore - a rarity this year! - for this week's WSJ but throwing in the towel on this month's MMMM.)Tina wrote: โFri Jun 07, 2019 2:03 pm Everyone should read Matt's write-up today on his controversial Week 5 meta last week. It provides a good look into the mind of the constructor. I think trying to put yourself into the mind of the constructor can sometimes help solve a meta. Also, writing stuff down can help you see what you're meant to see. http://xwordcontest.com/
This was a very interesting and informative read - thank you Tina for posting!

A couple of months ago, when the meta was an easy one that would gets lots of right answers (a TV show), I submitted โThe Yma Sumac Teri Garr Famous People Variety Hour,โ hoping to get a mention in the Mike Millerโs Monday morning post-mortem and maybe a chuckle or two from other commenters. But alas.
Iโm trying again this week with another wrong answer.

Enjoying the beach party. As usual, sleeping on it helped.
