Swam in the right direction and landed on shore. Another good puzzle!

Does anyone have a link to getting the .puz version (for Acrosslite)? The one I usually use (www.fleetingimage.com) is not working.

You’ve been getting the .puz version of the wsj?? I’d love that! The pdf's are eating my toner like crazy. If you find a replacement, please post the address.tim1217 wrote: ↑Thu May 02, 2019 4:23 pm Does anyone have a link to getting the .puz version (for Acrosslite)? This usually works at the release time, but for some reason it is not doing so today...of course, the added benefit is getting the 'happy pencil' so that you know the grid is correct...which can possibly make a difference for solving the meta.Meg wrote: ↑Thu May 02, 2019 4:31 pmYou’ve been getting the .puz version of the wsj?? Wow, that’s impressive! I’m on shore.
You can find .puz files at crossword fiend. Today’s isn’t up yet but should be at http://herbach.dnsalias.com/wsj/wsj190503.puz

Barbara, I always thought that the WSJ contest puzzle came out in print on Friday, which is why the Fiend only shows the regular Thursday crossword today. I’ve never seen the Fiend offer our puzzle on Thursday.BarbaraK wrote: ↑Thu May 02, 2019 4:39 pm Wow, that’s impressive! I’m on shore.

I guess I’m not actually sure when they get posted. I think I’ve seen them on Thursday evening, but I couldn’t swear to it. I prefer to solve on paper, so I don’t look for it that often.Meg wrote: ↑Thu May 02, 2019 4:49 pmBarbara, I always thought that the WSJ contest puzzle came out in print on Friday, which is why the Fiend only shows the regular Thursday crossword today. Holy cow. Excellent construction, one of the best I've seen in a while! I will hoist a Guinness in Mike's honor.

Got it! Very nice one--I could solve the grid without google, always a plus in my book, and while my first idea didn't work, a similar second idea did the trick. Plus it finally warmed up a little in New York. My winter coat no longer sparks joy.

Solving this one reminded me of my most memorable WSJ puzzle experience. And no, not that vile Three Musketeers one (still smarting), which some of you old-timers will recall! This week's meta is a 100 percenter.
Oh, and yes, I loved that Epstein piece last week on "vogue" words!

ASHORE ahead of the local small craft advisory! Apparently, driving 3,200 miles in a week is good for the Xword-related brain cells!
Have a great weekend one and all!!

On shore. Great meta!! Not sure I can find my way back now. Feel like I've had a few too many.
