This week's contest is "The Five W's " by Mike Shenk

The answer to this week's contest is a five letter word.

And thank you to all our muggles who served defending our country and their families who supported them. A thank you every day and not just veteran's day.

Good luck with the grid and the meta

So we are posting the Isaac Cameo whenever they are unsolvable?
The site is just a web page, a meeting place, a clubhouse - it's the group that's special.

On Shore... Almost went down a rabbit hole till I remembered that the Five W's have nothing to do with the Three Monkey's...

On the shore! Thank you, veterans! I attended a wonderful ceremony at a nearby abandoned African-American cemetery where some Civil War veterans are buried. Bugler, Roll Call, the whole nine yards. The neighborhood has gotten together to keep the cemetery cleaned up and put American flags at the soldiers' graves.

EDIT: So few Muggles have solved I'm starting to think my answer is wrong!

Please tell us that there is a technology glitch, and that it isn't actually true that only seven people have solved this puzzle by this time. Every hour that goes by is causing terror in the ranks of those of us still lost at sea.

Actually it is only 5. My first post opens the topic and then Peter commented on isaac's cameo.

Iโ€™m pretty sure Iโ€™ve figured out the true meaning behind the 5 Wโ€™s: โ€œWow, well we wonโ€™t win.โ€

Though I donโ€™t technically have the authority to do this, Iโ€™m also declaring that the Page 1 Statute of Limitations has expired. Announce yourselves fellow bar patrons!

I've been authorized by other solvers to post this, as we don't consider it to be nudgy:

It's likely that Matt Gaffney would call this puzzle SAD, Simple And Difficult.

Oh boy - I havenโ€™t even started the grid yet and hereโ€™s an additional counter counter rabbit hole to consider? :)

I thought the lack of a "submit" button on the puzzle was a glitch. Apparently it's a feature that's no longer needed - as evidenced by the state of this first page. :sob:

Lots of Ws in those first solvers. beachedWhale, Wendy Walker, KayW. Whimsey. Even Joe has a W in his avatar. I think I need to change my handle.

My underlying philosophy with metas is "if you can't solve the meta, at least you've done a good quality crossword puzzle".

I think the WSJ might be taking that credo a bit too seriously these days....
