Won't have as much time to stare at these during football season, so I'd better get better. Didn't find it, but submitted a guess after some furious shifting. I'm tinking I've got about a 13.8% chance of being right.

Well, submitted an answer - but not at all convinced of it's accuracy.

So, probably staying with Isaac for the evening, watching the shore party from afar..... and thinking 'what if...' :-)

Inspired by the Cardinals’ victory, I gave it one more look (eighth or ninth).

Late trip to the beach.

Ashore after a late start while watching the Sunday football games. Depressed after the Notre Dame loss on Saturday.

I attended the Cincinnati vs Notre Dame game, Saturday. It was my first time there in 40 years. Despite the outcome for The Irish, Notre Dame made several positive impressions on this opposing fan:
  • With only one exception out of many dozen post-game encounters, Notre Dame fans were incredibly gracious in offering spontaneous congratulations.
  • Pre-game & post-game, Notre Dame fans & staff are inteligent, fun, & entertaining folk.
  • ND fans love their teams.
  • The campus remains amazing & beautiful.
  • The football stadium is awe-inspiring & there isn't a bad seat in the house.

Last minute Hail Mary submitted by me. I had to Google to confirm a lot of the grid answers...I didn't think I was nudge-worthy this week.

Gaaaah!
Alternate (insane, tortured) answer:
1. 5 proper names in the grid: DeSade, Taft, Korea, Ops and Laver;
2. Each representing different countries: France (Fr), America (A), Korea (specifically North Korea—stay with me, here [NK]), Italy (I), and Australia (A);
3. Those spell out, “FrANKIA,” which as anyone knows is an alternate spelling of the ancestral home of the Franks, also know as France;
4. The capital of France is Paris.
5. Therefore, the answer to this week’s Meta is *obviously* Paris. Bah!!!
🤣

It may be a little easier to visualize if not all of the grid entries are capitalized:

Mr. Shenk took our tendency to fill the grid in uppercase and turned it into a sneaky mechanism. I could not at first figure out what the Capital meant. Of course it turns out that it meant Capital letters AND Capital city since Stockholm is the capital of Sweden. Clever, clever and devious....

By the way, how many people struggled with ORDain and PHLevel looking for Airport codes? I KNEW PHLEVEL had to be important because it was such an odd crossword word. I was right, but for the wrong reason....like that has never happened before.

At first, I had thought it was the capital letters found not at the beginning of words. I had S-O-C-H and thought for sure it would be SOCHI but iMac didn't fit. Stared for a few more minutes and found the rest. Glad I didn't jump the gun in submitting.

A day or so after solving, I went back to look at the grid in order to give someone a nudge.
Here's what I found scrolling below the puzzle --

My path to the solution started by noticing the absence of capital letters in the clues except for the first letter in each clue, and after a short detour I searched for capital letters in the grid entries.

I read the clue CAPITAL as CAP - ITAL - Rome. Best I could do on this one. Way to go to the solvers!
