Found my way out of a rabbit hole and made it successfully to shore. One of Mr. Shenk's better puzzles of late -- nicely done.

Ashore, I think. Plausible path and answer, but still working on the exact mechanism. We’re dropping off our youngest at college right now, so I may not get back to this for a couple of days but will edit this if/when I get there for sure.

Edit: OK, got it now and returned to it sooner than expected - I guess typing the original post above somehow triggered the final piece for me.

I submitted the second answer I found. I can definitely see someone making a case for the one I didn't send.

While chasing a particularly attractive rabbit, I stumbled across the real mechanism and made it to shore.

On shore. Boy, do I love this guy!

Here’s a height few plants can reach

Angelica, at pushing 9’, is a real stunner. In front, another stunner with red stems and dainty white blooms is artemisia Guizhou. To the right see red Champlain rose and giant globe thistle.

Looked at this again, and I guess I’m on shore. I’m maybe 80% confidant - part of the mechanism is eluding me.

Have relatives in, so just now filled the grid - - on to the meta. That said, I see no toe hold yet, let alone the launch to the beach. . .

Not so many solvers yet so I think the launch is running on reduced hours for now.

I have never been so all over the place with a meta!! I saw what I assumed to be the obvious starting step last night, but while trying to make that lead to a clear answer (and not succeeding), I have see about four other viable possibilities, and not necessarily even on the same theme that I (at first) thought the title implied. This could be a long haul.

More coffee, Isaac…
The other Wendy.
