Happily on shore.

My preferred drink is Jameson's. I didn't mention this last week, since it sounded too close to the solution to the 31 July puzzle.

So this week, make mine a double Jameson's!

If you're not 150%, don't submit. It's a slam dunk when you get it.

Happily ashore and humming a happy tune. Pass me a cold one.

(Noticed that the online answer submission option was not present on this puzzle)

🏝 Ashore in about 15 minutes. Now I'll Google the song title and verify that it exists. 🎶

On shore! And I love this song! Why is it that I can’t remember what I had for breakfast this morning, but I somehow remember all the lyrics to this song after not hearing it for probably 10 years?? Memory is a weird thing.

Ashore!

The Japanese would certainly disagree with the way 1-across is worded!

It happened at least once before, a few weeks ago. My theory is that the person responsible for posting the contest puzzle is on vacation, and the designated substitute for the duty followed the Monday-through-Wednesday posting protocol instead of the special one for the meta puzzle.

This is good to hear. I probably could not name a single #1 hit song from the 2000s, so going in to this one I am not confident. Now that I have the grid finished, I haven't seen anything of note to get me started on the meta hunt.

I had a cringe of fear when I saw the "#1 song" answer. I listened to pop music (now called "classic rock") when I was a teenager but lost interest more than forty years ago. So I haven't heard new pop music, and I can't remember old.
