I got the answer even though this well-known sci-fi writer is not either of the ones whose names I know. Much thanks to Mr. G.

After two Thursdays of being on vacation, with limited internet access, I have just printed this week's puzzle. I'm excited but nervous that puzzling skills may have diminished while away. This must be what it feels like to get back up on the horse (?) Let the swim to shore commence now.

I feel like Lisa Simpson looking at the YAHOO SERIOUS FESTIVAL theater marquee. I have letters, and those letters can be put together in various name-wielding combinations, but none of them are sci-fi writers that I know of. Google is pretty much mocking my search queries now after about 9 tries; it's just coming back with "no, you moron - that is not the name of a science fiction writer. Please stop embarrassing yourself in front of me."

Ashore! (Kind of makes up for last week, when I got side-tracked by following a red herring into a reef and never emerged … 😜.)

@KayW Would you prefer "famous"? ( I had to check to make sure that I did not commit a POE and incur Wendy's ire)
