This week's contest is titled "Under The Table" by Mike Shenk

The answer to this week's contest is an adjective.

20210709 WSJCC — Under the Table — Excel form

A couple of items

1) On the WSJ contest page are the four part series on Contest Crosswords. This series is especially good for newbies to learn.
2) I will be out of town for next week's contest. @Wendy Walker will be filling in as the able and willing cruise director.
3) The video for the Q&A with Matt Gaffney is still posted on the dropbox page with the link under the tab Matt Gaffney Q&Q under Come Aboard/FAQ-community

Ashore!

"His voice was metallic and deep and resonant, his breath a rasping hiss underneath the impact of his words..." (Darth Vader)
Now, where is that Johnnie Walker? ... uh, I mean, Where is Skywalker?

Wow, haven't gotten one in weeks. Did this one quickly, so I'm sure it will be a record breaker.

On shore!

I was VERy surprised that I solved this since I had to do it on my phone while riDINg in the car. We're on our way back from Pittsburgh after helping our daughter and family move in.

One tiny rabbit hole and then I saw it. I'll have a gin and tonic when we get to my brother's place in Cincinnati--I don't think Ohio is open carry!

My husband got the mechanism right away, even though he doesn’t do puzzles. I hate it and love it when he does that.

Solved, ho-hum.

Edit: IM(H)O, this is a pretty good application of a mechanism that I think is overused.
