Congrats to Darth and dudeski for winning the second August drawing!

Lots of ideas going nowhere. Even with an extra cup of coffee this morning for inspiration. It seems like it should be easy but I am just not seeing it.

You mean...."Make it a Double?"

I'll make it a Triple.
I suspect that 2 or 2.5 rating was on a three point scale (LOL)
Or I am being very obtuse and missing something "obvious".

Needed a nudge, but I'm on the Leader Board of Destiny.
Very fun and clever puzzle.

Got it with a nudge, and then raced right over the answer and continued to look before backtracking to where I needed to be.

That puzzle had me puzzled for a long time. I suppose that’s a sign of meta success.
I look forward to a "pliny dancer" clue. Hold me closer.

Got it. With a nudge. I’ve submitted, but not for a prize. My destiny is to be rewarded only when deserving.

Tough grid and tougher meta. Still thinking.

I think I finally got it! At least, the answer makes sense to me! haha

Edited: It seems I didn't get it the first time, though I still (sort of) liked my answer.

Edited: After a refocus, I've REALLY got it now! 100% confident!

I like this puzzle a lot!
(And I'm hoping and expecting I'll like it even more when I get it! :D )

Well, what do you know --
I've just been informed that I've had the answer all along.
(And I was right -- I do like it even more better!)
So today was very much a TIL kind of day. :D

Solved. Like others, I had the answer without knowing it. Thank goodness for Google and the muggle who nudged me to Google.

11 so far - Abide is on a quest to make this one to a dozen (the number of cups of coffee I need).

May all your days be caffeinated!

I hope you guys had a fun visit to my coffee shop (and do not want to throw the coffee in my face, haha).

I can post a little more later as am in the middle of a hectic tutoring week this time around, but the answer is none other than that word I'm sure all of you heard of...ZARF!!

I actually had never heard of this until it came up in a draft of a puzzle @madhatter5 and I were collaborating on that I kind of dropped the ball on - sorry! (I hope to do one down the line!!). I had never heard of that word before and thought it was one of the coolest things ever (a la "aglet," that little plastic tip on the end of your shoelaces). Some sources have appropriated the cardboard sleeve around the coffee cups to be a ZARF, though I think the more proper use is that of a decorative coffee pourer. We're fancy here at the Meta Coffee Shop!

I'll post a more official mechanism later - and, of course, another meta is coming at the end of September! I think that's how these things work.

Happy puzzling!

September answer: ZARF

Correct entries: 13

Winner: Meg - congrats!!

We had four themers in this puzzle all about COFFEE BEST DRINK EVER, along with the title "Make It a Double" and my predilection toward clue-based hints.

I try to be vigilant against dupes and would never place words intentionally in the grid in clues without there being a purpose to it. Four non-coffee related words in each of the themers are "doubled" in the clues elsewhere in the grid.

BABY = "Baby Blues" character = ZOE

PROPER = Proper = APT

YOURSELF = "Check this out for yourself!" = READIT

SPILL = Take a spill = FALL

The first letters spell ZARF, something that contains coffee (a mini-hint with "contained" in the meta prompt). I actually first heard of this word due to another cruciverbalist! It can both refer to the cardboard sleeve around the cup, in honor of the decorative urns used to hold coffee in ancient times (likely originating in Turkey).

See, we're learning something! See you for the October meta!
