Explanation:

We're looking for something that lives in the woods. Title is "Forest Rings."

Each one of the theme entries contains a kind of forest animal, split by (ringing?) a single letter:

ANTS
MOLES
MOTHS
MICE
DEER

The letters the animal names wrap around are I G U N F, which when rearranged spell FUNGI - a group of living things that is ubiquitous in the forest.

Animals don't organize themselves in rings, but mushrooms do - in what are known as fairy rings:
