Hey meta solvers --

Our second contest meta was just posted.

http://www.lexicondevil.live/2020/10/pu ... -meta.html

This one's a little harder than the last, more like a Gaffney Week... 2.5?

Answers due Monday at 5 pm.

Iโ€™m not seeing anything with this one. Wondering if it involves a subject I know very little about.

A few hints:

The meta is entirely solvable from the theme entries, of which there are five.

Some, but not all, of them will help you figure out what kind of monarch you are looking for.

The others will help you figure out the monarch's name.

I understand from the hint what kind of monarch we are looking for. I know which some (but not all) theme answers can stand alone with that kind of monarch. I do not see how to use the others to figure out the monarchโ€™s name. Perhaps post enlightenment will strike before Willโ€™s puzzle comes out in a few minutes.

I hope after I see the solution to this that I understand how all the theme answers tie the meta together.

Agree the nudging helped with the first part. It was actually pretty clever!

I have an idea for the second part, but I feel like I made a leap to get there that maybe isnโ€™t suggested in a way we would expect. Thereโ€™s also something that seems to validate where I am, but not sure.

I do think the title and penguin picture clearly point the solver toward using the five 2-word themers (this is not a spoiler - Ricky the site leader calls it out above). I just had trouble using them.

The penguin picture is not a hint in itself. It's just a picture of an emperor penguin because the puzzle is called "Little Emperor" (which is a hint)

Sent in answer, despite not having it locked down.

Iโ€™m pretty sure I have it, although only after being able to extend what Joe had already discovered. After the fact, Iโ€™d have to say that the puzzle was very hard, but fair. Answer submitted so lets see what happens.

Had some guesses that were on the right track, but none correct so far. I've extended the deadline until tomorrow at 5 PM EST.

I've also added clues to the original blog post, so read those before going any further!

Well Iโ€™m throwing in the towel. I was already at the point where I had used three answers to determine what kind of monarch. I have no idea how to use the other two to determine the name of a fictional tv monarch.

How do you know you were wrong? I submitted but haven't heard.

BTW, I edited an earlier post because I worried it would offend, but it's hard to invest a lot of time into a hard puzzle until a constructor has a certain kind of track record.

Ricky, who I assume is the constructor, said there were no correct answers submitted so far. That is never a good sign.

Any word on this puzzle? It seems that there were no solvers and I was curious as to what the answer was.

Just figured it out โ€”this is 100% this time. Submitted, even though it is past the deadline. I have no idea how we all missed this. It is not that hard, and certainly not unfair.
