Fun! I wanted the orphans to spell something, but you can't have everything.

As usual, not necessarily any hidden hints -- just a cat and his horse.

Awaiting confirmation, but I'm 100% sure the lynx is loose. From the jump, I knew what to look for, but boy did it take me a long time to find it.

I had to wait and complete the grid during lunch. For the first time in a looong time, I was uncomfortable using pen. Had to opt for pencil.

Look forward to searching for the meta this evening, I hope.

Spent the day looking at the grid and not really seeing anything.
Then suddenly everything clicked and the solution revealed itself.

Solved and submitted.

The cat, with a nudge -- which, now in retrospect, hardly seemed necessary -- is out of the bag.

The reason I shouldn't have needed the nudge is because I had thought of this, then that, then this, then that (probably not the exact number of thoughts) -- but somehow I didn't put it all together until I got the nudge.

Grr!!

Or should I come up with a cat sound for frustration. Are cats ever frustrated?

I got nothin' so far.

I will say though @madhatter5 that I find Fireball crosswords to be decent, but your grids can be much harder. I mean this in a good way--they're not unfair.

Grid done (challenging). Meta? Completely baffled. Too many possible directions ... title? hints among the clues? Entry oddities? CLUE oddities?... it’s like I’m overloaded with road signs so I’m just scratching my head. May have to give up on this one.

Out of town at daughter’s graduation and struggling with this meta. May need to resort to asking for a nudge.

Nudge Saturday!

There are seven horsemen in the grid, one for each circled letter.

You need to spell out their names by moving through the grid. The title should tell you how to travel.

One of the clues should tell you the direction to go

The clue for 29D was just a reference to an earlier MEOW puzzle and is not related to the meta.

I needed the first SPOILER to pull me out of the deep rabbit hole I was in. I never considered the possibility of individual horsemen. I was looking only for a group name.

Impressive fill construction.
