MEOW #22: Abraham Lincoln

A weekly meta crossword on the forum started by member Josh (aka madhatter5). These puzzles are often very creative with solving mechanisms out of the norm and skewing towards the more challenging. Puzzles are posted every Wednesday, and the solution appears the following Tuesday.

Oh no! Sorry! Looking into it now
It is still solvable. Just look at the color version until he gets it fixed!
Oh that explains a lot - I'll reprint it. No problem.
I'm close to finishing filling in the grid - I was wondering about the missing clues, 'No Clue's and incorrect cross references. I thought it might be part of the meta!
Knowing MEOW I was certain it was part of the meta
I can be found in Sheridan, NY, veejaying. (8)

I downloaded the .puz version, which is colorless, earlier today. Is it usable? Or can I go ahead and finish filling in the grid?

Yes. I completed (and solved) using only the PUZ version of the puzzle which I downloaded first thing this morning.

My first ever attempt at a MEOW. And the cat's out of the bag.

Given Monday, Wednesday and Friday metas, I may have to quit my job!

Nudge Saturday!

There is some similarity between the mechanism for this puzzle and the one featured in Whimsy's debut (which is not my fault since this puzzle was actually made back in February!)

There are two separate sets of words within the eleven starred entries. Entries within each set have a certain commonality.

One set is size seven, the other is size four. And the whole thing will tie back in to Honest Abe.

Looking in the wrong places. Finally, the cat found its way way out of the stovepipe hat.

Finished this one after the nudges - was headed in the right direction but hadn't quite made the connection - cat is now free to roam.

I accepted either the Gettysburg Address or the Declaration of Independence.

Thanks to RPardoe for sending me a very entertaining PowerPoint rendition of the famous speech:
