MEOW #13: Pyramid

#1

Post by madhatter5 »

Hi all and welcome to the thirteenth installment of the MEOW!

The answer to the meta is a proper noun. The difficulty level is a Calico-Persian hybrid.

P.S. RPardoe pointed out that the grid on the PDF is often too small, especially for open grids with lots of clues. The best I can do is center the grid and print clues on multiple pages, but the grid still seems small. If any Crossword Compiler guru lurks among you and knows how to solve this issue, please let me know!

Good luck as always.

  • Subscribe to & install Adobe Acrobat Pro.
  • Set up Acrobat Pro as a printer.
  • Print the puzzle from the PUZ app with Acrobat Pro as the printer, which creates the PDF.

All,

Joe Ross's suggestion for creators also works for solvers. If you want a larger grid, open the PUZ file (if you do not have Across Lite installed it is simple and free!) and choose Print. If you do not want it to print to the last printer you used, make sure you go into the printer settings (type Default Printer into the search bar at the bottom left of the tool bas and windows will bring up the "Let Windows manage my default printer" setting) uncheck "let windows manage..." and then when you chose Print from the Across Lite menu it will ask you what printer you want to use. You can chose a PDF if you have that installed or any of your physical printers.
NUDGES!I am always willing to give nudges where needed; metas should be about fun, not frustration. Send me what you have done so far because often you are closer than you think!

This presumes there IS a PUZ file. Last week's creative effort didn't work well with the PUZ format, so used the PDF to work the puzzle. Was glad to see this week's puzzle had a PUZ file.

Nudge Saturday!

The pyramid is not only there for show. You need to use it to solve the puzzle!

You have to put the right words inside the pyramid. But where do you get them from?

Guess what I got into a PhD program.

Solution:

The first word (or in one case, words) of the clues to the starred entries can be placed inside the pyramid, as follows:

Code: Select all

                                                              K
                                                            N I H
                                                          A R O M A
                                                        T H E O R E M
                                                      U S S J U N E A U
                                                    T R A N S L A T I O N

Going up and down the sides of the pyramid will spell out TUTANKHAMUN, which is the answer.
