MEOW #5: T-Rex

A weekly meta crossword on the forum started by member Josh (aka madhatter5). These puzzles are often very creative with solving mechanisms out of the norm and skewing towards the more challenging. Puzzles are posted every Wednesday, and the solution appears the following Tuesday.

MEOW #5: T-Rex

Hi all,

Welcome to the fifth installment of the MEOW! The answer to this meta is something which might help solve crosswords. The difficulty level is a Persian.

This one has some color involved, which unfortunately does not appear in .puz files. So although I am attaching the puz file, be warned that you will not have enough information to solve the meta without the colors.

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/ ... sp=sharing

I have also included a printer-friendly version with less colors and gray squares instead of black. Needless to say the meta solution is equally solvable in both versions (hint hint nudge nudge), but I think my beautiful creature looks better in the full color version.

In case anyone is colorblind or is printing out in black and white, the actual colors I use don't matter, just the regions they create.

Good luck!

Well it seems I am a solver after doing something I should have done sooner.

Very creative! I have the answer, but not sure I understand the other 50%.

Sorry we missed you at last night's Zoom.

You folks are quicker than me --- took me several intermittent sessions with head-clearing breaks in between before I was able to get it.
I find bike rides can be helpful.....

There are what look to be important differences between the printer friendly version and the full color one. But then I have not solved yet so maybe those differences do not matter.

This was a STARE, STARE, D'OH for me. Answer submitted.

I also noted the difference also and pointed it out to MadHatter. They are cosmetic and not critical - at least not to my solve.

Thanks to RPardoe and lbray53 for pointing out a coloring inconsistency between the two versions of the puzzle. The second letter in 15-D should be orange, not green. As he mentions, this should not affect the solve in any way. It has been fixed in the web-hosted version.

Got it! The cat had to scramble for a bit but finally found the opening in the bag.

Cat slipped out of the bag when I wasn't looking and into my lap as I was getting ready to retire for the night.

Fun puzzle! Henri told me to let you all know, "mon chat a perdu son sac".

Thank you, and now I know exactly what the Cheshire Cat meant by "If I were looking for a white rabbit I'd ask the Mad Hatter!"
NUDGES!I am always willing to give nudges where needed; metas should be about fun, not frustration. Send me what you have done so far because often you are closer than you think!

Very sorry if it was tedious to do all the colors! Thanks so much as always for the Excel sheets, they are very much appreciated.
