Nope -- wasn't it --
Madhatter says it's much simpler than what I proposed!

Quoting Tom Lehrer (New Math)...
It's so simple,
So very simple,
That only a child can do it!
Not a statement on the solve - As I am an adult, I have no idea at all on this one.

This comment has made struggling with the puzzle worthwhile.
I'm laughing nearly as much as when I saw Groucho (in which movie? I can't remember), leaning over the body, and saying, "Either this man is dead or my watch has stopped."

I’m wondering how I’m gonna feel when we get the answer.....abashed? Annoyed? Incredulous? Can’t wait!

Yes. It must be hard. But think about how much you are learning about meta solvers. I’m not sure exactly what our experiences tell you, but it must be something!

Mark showed unusual interest in this meta puzzle -- maybe because I was stumped too? -- but neither one of us have come up with an answer.
Good luck, fellow Muggles!

Solved - but did explain in PM to MadHatter what I was doing and the reply nudged me to realizing what I was doing wrong.

Ok I gave this one last look while I ate my lunch. No more looking for me. Will see the solution tomorrow. I am not typically a multi day meta girl. This was just still laying around and I have looked once a day for a couple of minutes. My minutes for today are up.

OK -- I'm going to free-associate here (a euphemism for vent ) so I might throw out something on the spoilerish side.... but since everyone who hasn't gotten it is probably in the same boat, same latitude and longitude, same doldrums.....
First off, is there a game called Pope Pete that I never got to play as a child? --- Yeah, that's it --- nuns at my Catholic school must have outlawed it.
Or wait! -- he's doing it with mirrors --- there had better not be math and equations and trajectory and whatnot going on or I'm outta here!
Or.... it's a game he made up when he was 10 years old.....and it's got a wacky name ('cause that's all I'm getting ) --- yeah! and he played it with his imaginary friend!
Looking forward to having this mystery sol-ved tomorrow!
And also to Wednesday (blatant promotional teaser here) --- 'cause I have solved that and it's fun!
