MEOW #28: Don't Overthink It

A weekly meta crossword on the forum started by member Josh (aka madhatter5). These puzzles are often very creative with solving mechanisms out of the norm and skewing towards the more challenging. Puzzles are posted every Wednesday, and the solution appears the following Tuesday.

Hector wrote: Sat Jun 12, 2021 12:20 pm Ah, did not get this one. Nice.

However, spiraling out from the center, it reads MATT SAS IT. If you add a Y, you get "Matt says it," i.e., says "why?" when he's overthinking.
I got that when test solving too! (Son's name is Matt so I was primed.)
And I also took a few liberties and threw in a different couple of letters while taking the same track -- but the results cannot be repeated for our delicate ears. :o But it's something you might think if you were exceptionally angry at someone named Matt. :D

Solution:

The letters in the grid, in reading order, spell out the first letters of the start of the prompt:

The Answer To This Meta Is Simply A Single

... meaning that the answer is the start of the remaining word (L for letter)

I overthought this a couple of times. (Is that over-overthinking?)

Overthought the first:
I will have to go with the letter R, as instructed by extracting specified letters from the clues.

1. "I tawt I taw a puddy ___!" (Tweety's phrase) => 1st letter is I
4. Texter's "I've heard enough!" => 4th letter is T
5. Carrier to Copenhagen => 5th letter is I
1. Some two-door Audi models => 1st letter is S
2. Org. whose logo bears the Rod of Asclepius => 2nd letter is R
3. "___ the season ..." => 3rd "letter" is _

Spells ITISR_ or "It is R."
Overthought the second, not really a serious effort:
If your name were Matt S., I might think the answer is A, because reading down the columns from right to left, the grid says:

'TIS A
- MATT S.
