I think I solved this one by just doing the puzzle - although as someone born in Titusville, Florida - I take exception to 27A claiming that.

Agree! It wasn’t a difficult grid and the mechanism is simple enough that you could figure it out with just understanding the very basics of meta/theme puzzles.

Just attempted and eked this one out under the wire (after a fellow muggle assured me it would not overwhelm my poor brain). A fun puzzle, tho search engines were definitely required once I saw the mechanism.
