Hi all and welcome to Muggle Meta Monday!

Note that for this puzzle, in addition to the grid, you also need the story "Encyclopedia Brown and the Case of the Impending Heist" which can be found in the Google Drive.

(And please cut me some slack, I wrote it quickly and I know I'm not exactly Shakespeare). The prompt will be found at the end of the story.

Good luck!

Cute and clever.

Was a big fan of Encylopedia Brown growing up, so thanks for the flashback as well.

If the sword was real, it couldn't have been engraved "The First Battle of Bull Run" because at the time, no one knew there would be a second one!!

Cat's off the couch.
Real competition for Donald J. Sobol.
It was fun to see the "New Math" reference too.
Thanks for the puzzle!

Got it!! The cat was so happy he ran around the room with the bag on his head until he slammed into a wall and it fell off. Just kidding. No cat would be dumb enough to run with a bag on his head, right?
Sorry. Wrong metaphor. I’m off the couch.

I'm going to upvote this just for the Encyclopedia Brown reference. I was a big fan back in the day!

So glad that Encyclopedia Brown appears to have hired a female partner since the late 1960s, when I read and loved the books! Fun puzzle!
Good luck, fellow Muggles!

Case solved... loved Encyclopedia Brown back in the day (and still have some in my collection). Great job, Josh; I for one wouldn't mind more of this type puzzle. And thanks for the shout-out!

Solved it! Though not as fast as EB. Somehow I drifted off to Afternoon Nap Land while contemplating the clues.

So nostalgic for a geezer like me whose woefully underfunded Catholic elementary school library had almost nothing fun to read, EXCEPT for the great Encyclopedia Brown.
