Slinky Interruptions

To paraphrase the old days-of-the-week rhyme, โ€œMondayโ€™s meta is full of grace,โ€ though you may want to complete that sentence with a different word after you do the puzzle. The difficulty level might be a 2, and you should not need the Google.

The answer is something most students get.

The Crosshare link is https://crosshare.org/crosswords/En1VbBI6KvW2EK4KdHYL

PM me your answer, which will surely be correct.

PLEASE NOTE: The clue for 59D should be "Deadly Nile denizens" (plural, not singular).

In doing the grid, anyone who knows 38A without looking it up must be really old (I qualify)

And if that did not date you, 26D certainly will.

Off the couch. A rare occurrence for me on the Monday puzzles.

Yes. These came to my aging brain all by themselves -- no Google.
I should have labeled the puzzle as OFMM -- Old Farts Monday Meta

Off the couch!

I knew 38A. But I'm old! Though not old enough, I gather, to know 26D. That came to me from the crossing letters.

Something related, and possibly interesting ... You know, in the silly comedy Airplane!, where Kareem Abdul Jabbar spoofs the disaster movie cliche of casting a sports figure as a co-pilot or firefighter or other minor character ... Someone once pointed out to me that much of Airplane! comes directly from the 1957 movie Zero Hour! In the latter, the sports-hero-in-a-minor role is 38A. See how the movies compare here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8-v2BHNBVCs

Answer submitted.

EDIT: Confirmed and off the couch.

I knew 38A and 26D (spelling a tad off at first).

If we ever return to normalcy, I'll have to pull this out some Guinness-soaked evening. Thank you, Chris!

Thanks for this link. I laughed at the Airplane moments yet again. And now I'm glad I used Mr. Hirsch rather than the alternative, Mr. Face. I thought only us Pittsburgh folk would know him, but in checking Google, I see he is in the "pitcher's wing" of the Hall of Fame, and is probably as deserving of full membership as, say, Hoyt Wilhelm, another reliever whose name, for some reason, comes to mind.

I guess I am off the couch primarily because I did this in my favorite reading chair. ๐Ÿ˜

๐Ÿ›‹ Iโ€™m of the age that 38A should have been a Jetsonโ€™s clue. Also, (sadly) cartoons have played a bigger role in my knowledge base than sports.

Submitted. Iโ€™m old, and I had to look up several entries. Gonna check out the Airplane! comparison, but just donโ€™t call me Shirley.

Me too. If it had been a Jetson's clue, I would not have had to look it up. As it was, I had guessed wrong, but did not write it in before finding that out.

Is this a serious a question. I can't believe you don't know. You must be older than I thought you were or your children didn't come along at the right time for you to have not watched it.
