Thanks to a tip from Hector, I used a spreadsheet. Without Excel, I would be sinking deeper and deeper into the couch.

Dang, I had some direct hints from the hatter himself today and still have very little.

There should be links to two versions of these --Hector and Mortal.

I'm using a spreadsheet to gather info based on step 1. But I still haven't figured out step 2. Every method/combo I try turns up gibberish.

All ahead of me - - can't see my way through the ~30 themers to find the theme. . . .

I probably should clarify that, while I did use a spreadsheet, I think that was partly why I was stuck in HunterX's situation for a long time. It might have been better to scribble on a pdf or two or three.

Hmmm... Perhaps scribbles will work if you know the correct path. My spreadsheet is full of lots of attempts at a step 2, none of which are bearing fruit. Sounds as if I need to ignore it for awhile. My brain needs to find a different route on it's own, I guess.

Looks like I'm not the only one who has entered gobs of information into a spreadsheet. Tried sorting it many different ways, getting gibberish. Went back to make sure my data was (were, if we're being pedantic) correct and found a few mistakes. Fixed those, re-sorted, and still getting gibberish.

Wow. That is a lot of data to interpret.
I wish I didn’t have a full time job. Will reevaluate after nudge Wednesday.

Right there with ya!

You think a pivot table is in order?

Stealing this from someone (it's probably decades old):

ORNERY CRAFTSMAN, TO WIFE: I've designed a new furniture accessory and named it after you!

SUSAN: Thanks so much!

Bahaha.

My bandwidth is low this week, and I'm pretty sure I need something I don't have, but I still don't see how that connects to what's in the grid, so I don't know. I feel this has a great payoff, but I think I'll need a Wednesday hint, for sure!

Wednesday nudges!

If you have no idea how to start the puzzle, 1A is a good place to look.

Everything you need can be found on this forum. Remember CTRL+F can be your friend.

If you've figured out step 1 and you're staring at mountains of info on a spreadsheet getting nowhere, try using a different origin. Think axes, not matrices. (This wasn't supposed to be difficult!)

If you know how it works but can't be bothered to do the legwork, I'll accept the first two words of the quotation rather than the entire thing.

Solved. But not without a hint from Bird Lives, who gave a hint similar to one of the nudges. Not sure I would have gotten it without it!

And DEFINITELY wouldn't have gotten it without Excel!

Absolutely needed the nudges from a kind fellow muggle - even then was approaching things from the wrong origin....finally got it. Like others, had to use an excel sheet to sort and keep track of everything!

Clever (but then again love me a good cryptic!)

5/5 (without looking back at page 1 to see who posted when)

I am so lost that the spoilers do not even help. I cannot even get step one. I guess I will wait for the reveal.
