Madhatter5 Cryptic #3

Rpardoe suggested a cryptic-themed MEOW. Well, I couldn't figure out a way to do that which would be fair for non-cryptic solvers, so instead I made a MEOW-themed cryptic :)

You know the drill. Send me a completed grid to jdrubin@middlebury.edu for the chance to win the pride and joy of accomplishment, the market value of which is currently $3.72 before taxes. Terms and conditions apply.

Good luck!

EDIT: Thanks to Al for pointing out that the word length was wrong for 2D. Fixed now.

Got it (after correcting a typo). Had trouble parsing 17a.
Well done, Josh.

Same here - have two possible answers, but asked Josh in my submission if I chose the right one or not.

Ok everyone, I admit I messed up and made 17A too obscure.

The answer is LED. Wolf is supposed to be Hugo Wolf, and a Wolf piece is a LIED.

Just me trying to be a bit too clever for my own good :)

EDIT: And thanks to RPardoe for pointing out I misspelled 'Rolling' in 1D

There "hugo" - 17A explained.

But never heard of Hugo Wolf, did think of Thomas Wolfe a possible hidden capital, but got nowhere fast there as well.

Thanks for 17a. Never would have gotten it. The wordplay for 8d was unusual (for me). I loved the clue for 1d! I’m finding Joshua's cryptics easier than Joshua's metas.
