Mission to Mars: Cox and Rathvon, WSJ, 04/24/21
Another fun HEX puzzle! I got this one in less than an hour, which is very gratifying, because I believe I screwed up WSJCC this weekend (submitted too quickly, without thinking it through), and I'm getting not much of anywhere with MGWCC so far.

Ok, got the grid entries all the way around. Now to figure out a few parsings that eluded me.
Agree with Chris - not as tough as usual for a C&R.
Edit: parsing done. Some quite devious.

A methodical solve and fun reveal.
The full parsing of 7A eludes me, everything else eventually became clear.

Puzzle complete, but ...
We are struggling to understand the reason for the mid-section of 1A. Please help.

Got it! It seems to take me re-reading the clues numerous times before my brain can switch to “cryptic” mode. After staring for 20 minutes or so, “Hey, I got one!!” Then things begin to tumble slowly from there.
Had a lot of the Across & Down last night. Got most of the rest this morning, plus enough Probes to see what the circles spell. Had the most difficulty with the mid-bottom area, but just got it all worked out a little while ago.
Enjoyed it!

I always look forward to the cryptic. 21A was the last one to fall.
