The website just turned to the next issue, so the PDF for the August Issue Maltby Cryptic is now available.
Old hands will know the trick this month from the title.

I often struggle to get a foothold on these, but this one fell into place quite quickly. I hope that's how the rest of this week will go!

Finally got to this this evening.
Agree, a bit less daunting than normal.

Interesting to read the notes above because, for me, this was somewhat more of a struggle than usual for an REMJ puzzle in Harper’s. (Though, yes, there were no officially uncommon words or rare variations this time.) I took two naps during the solving!

FWLIW - My "bit less daunting" was a reflection that two (9D / 23D) of the placed clues intersect w/ the 12s. That allowed (for me) a quick placing of the framework to the grid (I try to get the 12s in early) compared to normal where I am a bit more uncertain how to anchor the 12s.

I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one to struggle. Still plugging away at it. I have about half of the clues figured out and a few placed based on the Across and Downs.
