Harper's October 2021 - Placeholders

#1

Post by RPardoe »

Mid-month, so the website has turned to the latest (October) issue.
New Maltby Cryptic available for subscribers.

Completed, a bit of a challenge until I got the gimmick about half-way done.
Afterwards, a pretty short time to completion.

To say more might give away the AHA for other solvers.

Enjoy!

That was my experience, as well - a rocky start, then a chuckle-filled trot to the finish. Some clever cluing, too, but isn't that on-brand for Maltby?!?!

As with others, took quite a while to catch on. Still haven't finished NE corner. Probably finish in the morning. 53a finally broke it for me.

Ditto the above comments. Tough at first, then I rolled once I caught on. With many chuckles along the way. Fun clueing!

Was able to do this one - fun! Though my first glimpse was 10D and 53A was last.
