How to quote another post

A good way to reply to a post by another user is to use the "Quote" feature.

To do this, click the Quotation Mark button in the post that you want to quote:

This should bring up a window that looks like this:

This is the box in which you type a post, but it has included the text you are quoting at the top. This will appear indented and in another color to indicate it is a quote.

You will notice the quote starts with [ quote="Bird Lives" post_id=164 ... 67]

This tells the software that this is the beginning of the quote. Likewise it ends with [ /quote] which tells the software that it's the end of the quote. Everything between these two bracketed phrases is the quotation and will appear indented in a different color.

So now that you're ready to add your message to the post, you want to make sure to do it either above the [ quote="Bird Lives" post_id...], in which case your text will appear above the quote; or below the [ /quote], in which case your text will appear below the quote. If you add your text between the [ quote] [ /quote] markers, it will appear as part of the quote, which you probably don't want. I think putting your text below the quote is customary, however, if you are making a long post or you want to quote in the middle of your text, you can do that too.

After you press "Submit," this will appear as such:
