Introduction to the User Control Panel

#1

Post by BrianMac »

The User Control Panel is the primary means of customizing your experience on the Forum. You can access the User Control Panel by clicking on your name in the upper right of the screen, and selecting “User Control Panel” from the menu that drops down.

The User Control Panel has six tabs, and each tab has a menu of options. I've put a brief description of each below. This is just to help familiarize yourself with the Controls. There will be separate posts explaining in more detail how to do some of the things below, like making an avatar and setting your notifications. The best thing to do is to poke around and experiment...you won't break anything!

Overview: Includes statistics and information about your use of the site.

Profile: Allows you to edit your profile, and create and modify your signature and avatar. "Edit account settings" is where you would go to change your password.

Board Preferences: This tab allows you to control how other users may contact you, customize how posts are displayed, and set your preferences for being notified about posts you are interested in.

Private Messages: Private Messages (PMs) are like emails between you and other members.

Usergroups: We basically only have two groups -- Registered Users and Guests. Guests can read only, but not post, and are restricted from certain content on the site such as user profiles. This tab is really not applicable.

Friends and Foes. Here you can designate someone a "Friend" or "Foe." Designating someone a "Foe" blocks their posts from being displayed to you. Hopefully no one will need to use that, but it's there if you want. Please let me know immediately if anyone is being abusive or making you feel unwelcome.
