#2 was a little weird because you can misinterpret the trick but end up with the correct four letters, albeit out of order.
As I scrolled through the hints to check on #4, I realized that I got lucky on #2.

I just started these this afternoon and have finished the first two. Like C=64, I missed the trick on #2 but still got the right answer. Not particularly satisfying, but sometimes you hit a tree with your drive and the ball still ends up in the fairway.
Got three, but had a major problem finding something I needed for four. Oh well, on to #5.

Well I'm a month or so late to the game, but I just recently got this pack. And I am going to really get my money's worth, because I'm probably going to be working on these for the next year. I'm stuck on Puzzle 2 and already looked at a hint!

I got stuck on #5 a month ago and haven't gone back to it or looked at the hint, so we may be in it together.

Happy to report I just got out of Room 3! I'd forgotten all about these. Am going to be less concerned about using hints, or I will never finish these in my lifetime.
