Re: "Connect The Dots" June 11, 2021

Do they still have those signs at stadiums? Do kids still play pepper? Well, what with all the "NO PEPPER GAMES" at the ballparks, they probably don't. I would imagine playing pepper would raise safety concerns these days. Last time I played as a kid cars didn't have seat belts.

19A should have been clued: "Like the Braves' bullpen." (Baseball fans will understand.) —> Room on the AL bandwagon. Just saying. I got the first two steps immediately, now trying to solve. I haven’t had a great last couple of weeks but who knows… Pffft. After however years it's been now...

Re: "Connect The Dots" June 11, 2021

I started out swimming to shore confidently and midway realized I had forgotten a skill I supposedly learned as a child. Luckily, as I gasped for air, a big tech speedboat picked me up and dropped me onshore. Drinking time.

Confirmed that the cat is out of the bag. Had the right notion early. Abandoned it and commenced overthinking. Others had to give my head a swat so I could relax. Great puzzle.

Re: "Pardon My English" June 4, 2021

I grew up on dead end street, and we always thought cut de sac was a highfalutin phrase used by pretensious real estate folks. A kind of elegant variation. As Orwell wrote: Foreign words and expressions such as cul de sac, ancien régime, deus ex machina, mutatis mutandis, status quo, Gleichschaltung...

Re: "Pardon My English" June 4, 2021

But if you google “masterwork french” you get both of those but not TOUR DE FORCE. If you put “masterwork” in a synonym finder you get all three. Everyone's experience is different, I suppose. I put MASTERWORK in at synonym-finder.com, and I got "Sorry, we could not find synonyms." Pauvre...

Re: "Pardon My English" June 4, 2021

I finally broke down and asked for help. I had all the pieces but could not put them together. I abandoned an early strategy which was my downfall. The 25% confusion plagued me as well, largely because Google got me to the 75% so quickly. The correct solution is fair in my opinion. It just depends ...

Re: "Pardon My English" June 4, 2021

Think of it this way. If you flip a fair coin, you will have a 50% chance of it coming up heads. But if you flip the coin 10 times, the odds are far greater that you will come up with heads at least once. That probability is 1 - (.5)^10, or 99.9% probability that there will be at least one head in ...
