Shore.

A few missteps in the grid, but the a-ha moment came fairly quickly for the meta. I enjoyed the approach.

On shore and with other muggles in finding the meta 'fun.' Actually made me laugh. : ) ) ) And I also endorse the sage advice to (a) take a nap, (b) have a drink, or (c) just look away for a moment if the solution isn't forthcoming or if you are stuck in one of those pesky dead-ends that occasionally cause difficulty.

Have a good weekend, all!

Onshore. Difficulty rating seems about right.Saw the correct approach early but had to clear my head of tax-related stuff to finish.

On shore! The grid challenged my brain in a good way and the meta was fun. Welcome, Joanne!

jacklindahl wrote: Fri Mar 06, 2020 2:09 pm Ok. I'm new to this, so ... huh? Got the grid pretty quickly, but not the "meta". What's the deal?
so, you need a 6 letter word to solve the meta.

Fair game and help to find it include (in no particular order):

1. the answers in the grid
2. the questions in the puzzle
3. the name of the puzzle
4. the question asked
5. and ... there can be more things, such as the time of year, the nearest holidays, all kinds of things.

Go to this thread and see some of the past meta puzzles and their solutions and you'll start to see how these things "work":

and this is also good info:

Done and done. I would dearly love to know and understand the science that leads our brains to "suddenly" (however that's defined) realize an answer to a puzzle or conundrum, because I picked up my computer and having solved the puzzle over an hour ago, saw the title of puzzle in the tab, and immediately realized what the solution was.

yes, it's interesting that you spend time on these, put them aside, and do other things.

and clearly your brain, some part of it, is "percolating" the grid and the requirements and the other stuff ... and suddenly, ding, the light turns on.

and your coffee is ready.

On shore! I didn't see it. Then I went back...and didn't see it. Then I glanced at it in passing and had a serious "Oh Duh" moment. It's okay, I'd take the mug regardless...
