Cap'n Rick wrote: Mon Feb 26, 2024 11:14 am Well, the New England weather forecasters have been particularly challenged this winter, and based on the number of incorrect answers in Crosshare, I'd say that I may have underestimated the difficulty of this meta. I had originally assigned it a Level 3 ("A Bit Choppy") then downgraded it to Level 2 ("Gentle Ripple"), but apparently my first impression was more correct. So to make amends I'll change it back to a Level 3 and offer up an early Nudge to help you get started.

Like they say on some TV game shows, "Talk it out."
Methinks the penalty-free WAGS that we get on Crosshare may have given you more incorrect answers than would occur in a harsher setting. True for me anyway... try this, try that, OMG

I fell into the trap that everyone else did, apparently. I found what I'm supposed to find, but like some others I often struggle with these kinds of puzzles.

Thanks for paying attention and giving an early nudge, but I don't think that one is going to help anyone as that nudge is already in the puzzle!

Maybe I'll be able to get it with more nudges on Wednesday. I'm just running into a brick wall at this point.

That's a good point, @Eric Porter. I wanted to help folks get a foothold without giving too much away. Wednesday's Nudges should help everyone get over the obstacle(s) they're encountering.

Please feel free to send me a PM if you'd like more help before Wednesday.

OTC. Loved this one! Did the same “obvious…but WRONG!” submission as others I’m sure. The real answer is much more satisfying.
The other Wendy.

still waiting for the nudges..... ( note I am hoping for many of them)... Couldn't figure out why they weren't up yet until I realized that I'm in Tokyo and it's Wednesday here :). I'll have to wait until you catch up.

Well, @minimuggle, since it's already Wednesday in Tokyo, it's only fair that you get to see the Nudges now. I just sent you a PM. Good luck!

Wednesday Nudges

At last, the Wednesday Nudges are here!

Those three helpful SLANTED "entries" are placed diagonally and symmetrically in the grid.

Those three diagonal words create a phrase that should lead you to a particular 4-letter combination (but NOT the meta answer).

Those same 4 letters can be found at the ends of six symmetrical Across clues.

Somehow the answers to those six Across clues provide the 4-letter answer to the meta.

Try saying those six 3-letter grid entries out loud in grid order. :D

Wow. I got this earlier. But nudges 2-4 are completely eluding me and I certainly did not use them.
Funny story. I was all set to enter Par for the course for the CrossHare midi contest for April but I mistakenly thought midi meant 7x 7 and not 11 x 11. Oops. Well.... Here's a complex but **small** meta on the subject of golf.
