MGWCC #809 — Friday, December 1st, 2023 — “Family Man”

THIS WEEK’S INSTRUCTIONS:

NOTE:
For uninteresting reasons we’ll have no-instructions solving options on the Week 2 puzzle this month instead of this week.

This week’s contest answer is a name in the news.

Solve well, and be not led astray by words intended to deceive.

This was very hard because it was too easy.
Funny story. I was all set to enter Par for the course for the CrossHare midi contest for April but I mistakenly thought midi meant 7x 7 and not 11 x 11. Oops. Well.... Here's a complex but **small** meta on the subject of golf.

So it's a good news/bad news weekend. I solved the WSJ and MGWCC quickly - Yay me! But, bad news - now what do I do all weekend long?

I stared and stared at it until I did some doodling and ... concur, it's a 0.5 "gift" from Matt this week.

On the pad, awaiting confirmation the right electrons are in the right orbits.

Edit: on at 53D, oops, #123, wrong sequence.

That took me way too long to see. Thanks to some group solve helpers for getting the right idea out in front.

Submitted four minutes after the last update. Solved quickly but did not get around to submitting it. I decided there was not rush since I was highly unlikely to be #1.

I noticed that there are four incorrect answers (if I am reading that correctly). I wonder if they submitted what I very nearly did?!

UPDATE: Officially beamed up at #179.
