So, basically, Ada has stolen Matt's car, and the puzzle won't be available until she's come home for her nap.

Works for me.

If you see a Honda being driven by a 3-year old in your community, please alert Matt Gaffney, as his New Balance running shoes are lying on the floorboard, under the passenger seat. Please do not attempt to apprehend the driver, as she may be cranky.

So one fewer day to solve a Week 5 in time for Tilghman’s birthday 😬

My daughter will be 3 in March, and I empathize with this statement all too well

I've got an answer but it's very suspicious... now I'm very hesitant to submit it. I have a feeling we're getting pageanted again this week.

Edit: Pretty sure I have it now, awaiting the beam with much trepidation!

I've sort of got two answers, both obviously intended to be gleaned, but neither very satisfying as the answer. Probably I'm missing something. If not, this is a puzz I will not be all abuzz about.

I've submitted, and now I wait to see if I am right...

ETA: I am, but I messed up my username... Happy to be on the board though.

I think I might wait to submit on Tilghman Day, which gives me some time to...you know, like, actually solve it.

#3. If I was brave I would have been #2. But I really had to consider losing my streak.

Beamed. Had the right idea, but a helpful observation from a co-solver pushed it over the line.

Got step one, but now I'm stuck. I can see where Jangler et al. might have gone astray.
Maybe I can still manage to solve by Tilghman Day.

It's telling I must speak Gaffnese more than Shenkish because I found at least one very real step in about 10 minutes, whereas 7+ hours on the WSJ has my wheels still spinning.

Awaiting transport, but more sure than last week! This one was excellent! I forgot about the Tilghman Day badge, but the only way I ever get any badges is by accident anyway :-)

Update: #35!

Didn’t sit down with this until 4:30 … quick solve for a week 5. Just happened to think the right way. On the board at 45.

Beamed up, but not feeling great about missing at least half the fun of getting there. Kind of like solving a cryptic answer without understanding the wordplay.

I think I see something useful (first step maybe), but stuck for now.

On the board at #27. Group solve for me. I was almost there, but, like the WSJ, had to look at something differently to get the meta.
