Count me on the ship with Isaac, due to no time or motivation to return and attempt a solve.

At least Isaac knows that I tip him well and he responds in kind...

And here's the final update of my stint filling in for our official Cruise Director.
Reaching the shore are Cindy N, Cinny, CP Johnson, DB Miller, Edestlin, Efox999, EVJ, Hayden Dog, Hidden in 3D, Homer Buckle, Katiedid, Kris Zacharias, Lisa Joy, Little Grey Cells, Magistra, RJY, and Sweet C. I expect a few more folks from Last Call will declare themselves on shore as well as they seemed to be VERY CLOSE to reaching the meta answer!
And among those spending Sunday evening on the Ship are Hoover, Janet P, Ky-Mike, Tom Shea.
Good night, all! And a hearty "Welcome back" to Bob Cruise Director!
Good luck, fellow Muggles!

Well … better late than never! Having thought briefly about the meta four or five times since Thursday night and having had no idea how to proceed with it, I found myself on Sunday night with nothing else to do, made one more feeble attempt, and found myself drifting shoreward at the mercy of a gentle current … that eventually dumped me in shallow water … from which I just waded ashore! Will wonders never cease?! … 😜

Well, still at sea. Completely flummoxed by this one.

Last chance Zoom gave the direction towards shore I needed. Enjoying a Mexian Mule, but not submitting.

Ashore in the nick of time. Banned myself from the Friday zoom to avoid getting mentally lazy, with the downside that it took this much longer to arrive at an answer. I think it was worth it but my beloved spouse might not agree.
Regards to all,

After a consult with DrTom, my course was corrected...back to an earlier course I thought a rabbit hole. I went from 'under the sea' to 'where the people are.' On shore :)

Thanks DrTom.
Thanks to all the muggles in this group. Participating is the highlight of the week!

Just got home from being away since Thursday with no time to solve.

Grid is done and I see a few things but no AHA yet.

I have another 45 minutes but I think I'm stuck on the boat!

Well, for the official record, I suppose I'm on the ship this week. We went away for a long weekend, and I didn't spend a lot of time on the puzzle, but I don't think I would have gotten it anyway. I'm 1-for-4 on metas this weekend. Somehow I got the Gaffney correct, but I couldn't crack the WSJ or Fireball, and I never even started the AVCX.

I just happened to see 34A DEV at the same time as 66A IOUS and ran off with it.

Without that brief moment of "aha-ism" I never would have got this.

Super sneaky Shenk meta!
