Episode #321 Contest: DIY Project

#1

Post by bcimmet »

Hello solvers! There's a new contest puzzle from Fill Me In. I'll rate this one 2.1 bananas on a scale of 5 bananas. (Bananas has nothing to do with the puzzle, it's just a 1-to-5 scale we made up.)

The puzzle is called "DIY Project" and was constructed by me (Brian Cimmet). The solution to the puzzle is a 7-letter word.

The crossword can be downloaded from here. You're welcome to solve, you're even welcome to join in the chatter about the puzzle -- but if you want to be eligible for a prize, you have to listen to the podcast for this week's password. The podcast can be found on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts, our own website, or wherever you collect your podcasts.

Once you've solved the puzzle, submit your answer and this week's password by email to fmi@bemoresmarter.com. You can also contact us with any suggestions, questions, comments, or ideas. Thanks for playing along!

Got it. That was beautifully constructed!
Check out "The MOAT MEOW Mashup Pack" here. US$10 for 14 metas that don't always abide by the "rules" of the game: asymmetry, 2-letter words, uncrossed letters, who knows. And this time there's a mega-meta!

Hello solvers,

The solution to this contest was SPACKLE.

There were 14 entries in the grid that were one letter too short for the number of squares. This left seven crossings at blank squares. If you filled in the blank squares with the most sensible letters to still make real word entries in the grid, the seven letters you would have filled in would be S-P-A-C-K-L-E. Furthermore, since spackle is the stuff you use to patch up holes in a DIY project at home, it made good sense as the answer.

There's another contest puzzle and a new post in the forum for it. I hope you give it a try!
