Then Wendy would probably not know Lew Burdette = from the Boston and Milwaukee Braves

On shore. I won't discuss the inane attempt at solving the meta which led me to wander around inside a rabbit hole for roughly 20 minutes. *facepalm*

A couple years ago, there was one where the answer was BEACH. Commenters were so carefully avoiding using that word that someone really observant could have been spoiled just by noticing its absence.

I will not be able to sit down with the puzzle until tomorrow but you guys are giving me hope that I just might solve it!

Actually, the real quote is:
First we’ll use Spahn, then we’ll use Sain
Then an off day, followed by rain
Back will come Spahn, followed by Sain
And followed, we hope, by two days of rain.
First we’ll use Spahn, then we’ll use Sain
Then an off day, followed by rain
Back will come Spahn, followed by Sain
And followed, we hope, by two days of rain.

On the beach...
The grid was easy, but then I was staring slack-eyed all day and seeing nothing while wondering why everyone here was talking about how easy it was. After I was woken by jet lag at 3am, I looked at the puzzle again and there it was. Funny how that works sometimes.

My husband doesn’t normally take much interest in solving the puzzle or meta but the completed grid happened to be on the table while we were eating lunch. After some discussion he saw the path to the solution so I am on shore. I hope he is prepared to share the mug

On shore! That was fun. Once again, my 16-year-old non-crossword-loving daughter made a small contribution to my solve. I'll turn her to the dark side eventually!

I didn't know this. But, IIRC, I did have both of them on baseball cards, though God only knows how much pink bubblegum I chewed in getting there.

Good Saturday morning muggles
First a warm welcome to our newest muggle - dmil. We now have 481 muggles in our clan
And the Saturday WSJ crossword is not hard but is extremely clever. A fun puzzle
And an explanation for those that I miss. There are several reasons that you are on the list including I missed entering you in my spreadsheet, I missed typing you in the message and I have also found that some messages don't get posted right away on the blog and they show up later so they are not there as I go through the messages. When they do post, they are in order of when you entered them so unless I go back over the postings, which I rarely do, they don't get counted. Bottom line, is if you don't show up, please let me know.
So far we have 3 on the ship and 92 on the shore.
Keeping Isaac company and tending Marge's garden are
Janet

and Gerry
On the crowded shore are

These puzzles emphasize how helpful it is to get a good night of sleep (when it's possible).
Nice to begin the day ashore; compliments to Matt Gaffney our 'puzzle chef.'
All the best to fellow solvers and may the forces of randomness become confused on your quests towards muggledom.

On shore!
Had more trouble with the grid than I did with the meta. Really liked this one though!

Don’t bother me until I’ve had my coffee and done the crossword.

Yay, got it. Stared at it for a while. Raked a bunch of leaves. Stared at it again and saw it!
