MEOW #7: Run Away! (+ Bonus)

#1

Post by madhatter5 »

Hi all and welcome to the seventh installment of the MEOW! The answer to this week's meta is something which might cause you to change direction. This one is a Calico-Persian hybrid.

In addition, to make up for last week I am including a bonus puzzle which was co-constructed with the inimitable DrTom. It is entitled " 'On The Rebound' On The Rebound", and it attempts to revive a puzzle which went down in feline infamy. No official rating on this one but I would guesstimate it's a Persian.

Good luck on both!

P.S. Working with DrTom has given me an uncontrollable urge to tell a joke, so here goes:

Q: When a Muggle is lost at sea, in which sea is he or she lost?

A: The Meta-terranean

Gosh, I thought you'd be a lot more Pacific....as for me I'm going to that body of water where I may bring along my haricot verts, you know the Carry Bean.

Pestilence, well I know I have a rather viral presence but...anyway you are not the first person to associate plague/pestilence with my name, I believe it was first mentioned by an ailing older female I know, we called her Sick Ada.

I’m only having some fun
When I relate everything with a pun
And if I can boast
A witty re-post
Then the jester in me has won

Busy day today and working for the next two so I'll probably be late at this, but I do love Madhatter's puzzles so I will get to this. This is one clever constructor, he gives me FAR too much credit for his amendment to the puzzle which shall not be named. I mentioned an idea, he took it and ran, and it is a pleasant little bonus.

I emailed my cryptic #2 to Madhatter5, though it’s missing 2 entries. Run Away! Has me befuddled.

Came up with an alternate path and answer which Josh has accepted so I am on to Dr Tom’s.

This sounds complicated. Do you mean there are two paths and two separate answers? And either is ok?

No it just means Jay submitted a path to an answer which I was so impressed actually made sense (except for one small issue) that I decided to give it to him just out of sheer amazement that he could come up with such a thing :)

Should not affect your solve in any way.

If it wasn’t for my ten years of playing in the front row of a scrum I probably would have had the intended answer. Scrambled brains lead to strange results.

Oh, wait! I got it! Puzzle no. 1, that is. I'll PM Josh for confirmation.

EDIT: Confirmed! Very nice puzzle! (Now if I only had something to go on in the rebounded "On the Rebound".)

I have gone down an internally consistent rabbit hole and submitted a somewhat weird answer. We'll see in the morning.

EDIT: The cat is out of the box!

It has been definitively confirmed that my cat is out of the bag and screeching throughout the neighborhood.
