Have you gotten my PM's with the answer. The don't show up in my PM sent file but I don't know if that means anything.Bird Lives wrote: ↑Thu Nov 19, 2020 11:35 amIt should be obvious to even a casual observer that any similarity between me and the genuine Cruise Director is purely coincidental.Bob cruise director wrote: ↑Thu Nov 19, 2020 11:14 amJay

In a PM from Bird, he said that he never got the two PM's I sent. But a re: gets through.Cindy N wrote: ↑Thu Nov 19, 2020 2:40 pmMy PM is gone from sent as well (and yes, that means it's been read).Bob cruise director wrote: ↑Thu Nov 19, 2020 12:26 pm Have you gotten my PM's with the answer. Spent way too much time on the couch this week but finally got it.
What a great idea to turn a rabbit hole into a “fresher” meta. Talk about turning lemons into lemonade!
Now to find that Easter egg...

Off the couch shofer! I mean, fer sho!
I got step one right away. Step two was a bear for me, but it literally came to me in the middle of the night. Great puzzle, and thank you for this little piece of immortality Bird Lives!

I don't know what's going on. I click on the private message option and send it to Bird Lives. It disappears from my Outbox, it shows up in my Sent, but I'm not on the list yet. Hopefully, third times the charm!

THE ANSWER:
Schmeel sent an exigesis that was better than anything I could have written, though I have added the graphic:
Each theme entry clue had 2 numbers and a topic in parentheses after it. The first number indicated the length of the name with the first letter changed - a 'New Beginning'; the second number indicated which letter to use from that distinctive person's last name, and the topic indicated the field that person was active in:
18A - FILLAVOID - 5 letters begged the change to Willa, Cather, of literary fame.
23A - RONANFARROW - 5 letters cried for Conan, O'Brien, a comic without doubt.
36A - FEWTONONE - 4 letters called for Newt, Gingrich, a politician by any measure.
51A - SHEEPFLOCKS - with 3 needed letters who could it be but Che, Guevara, South American revolutionist.
56A - DIDNTFAZE - 3 letters here too, which implied Sid, Vicious, British punk
rocker.
The answer:
R(6) from Cather
I(4) from O'Brien
N(3) from Gingrich
G(1) from Guevara
O(5) from Vicious.
The first letters of the five clues for these spell out the last name.

Wonderful!
Thanks for clearing up Sid Vicious and the Easter Egg (which would be an excellent name for a rock group.)
