I flew thru the grid, but not feeling confident about the meta, so I would appreciate a nudge. Thanks!

Yo0u need to rectify this posthaste. P.G. Wodehouse is one of the funniest writers ever. And he was a crossword fan.

Maybe Midori. I mean it's got to be green to match the icing, right?Scraps wrote: ↑Fri Oct 16, 2020 1:28 am I was at sea for a while because I was in the thrall of the cruelest of rabbit holes: a rabbit hole that doubles as an ear worm.
One of the answers got me locked into a song famously mocked by Dave Barry, and I couldn't get past:
"I recall the yellow cotton dress
Foaming like a wave
On the ground beneath your knees"
(Hope it's not a spoiler to say the answer is not a yellow cotton dress.)
Anyway, I'm ashore now.
Hmm. What drink would go with soggy, rained-on cake?

If you like Wodehouse (and golf), The Golf Omnibus is highly recommended.Wendy Walker wrote: ↑Thu Oct 15, 2020 6:45 pmAny reader of P.G. Wodehouse has heard of them. In one story the upper-class twit Bertie Wooster wears a daringly loud plaid pair on the golf course and his traditional valet, Jeeves, strongly disapproves. In the end Jeeves, of course, gets his way and the offending "article of clothing" ends up being given to the gardener's helper.

Good Friday noon muggles
Again, a warm welcome to our newest muggles - Flananigans and Franklin.Bluth. We are up to 776 who have posted that they are on the ship or shore at least once.
And we have 9 on the ship with Isaac and 66 partying on the shore.
Last thing - I have PM'd a couple about direct references to the grid answers. These may or may not help someone solve the meta but they make getting the grid answers less enjoyable to most. Could we all look at our posts to make sure that we are not pushing the boundaries.
Also make sure that you have it set up to receive a PM as that is the best way to communicate without drawing attention to the issue.

Ashore! That one took me longer than I'd like to admit. I'll take beer: multiple, cold, and domestic.
My twins turn 5 tomorrow so I'm smoking a brisket overnight tonight to celebrate...supposed to get down to 36 degrees here overnight, so wish me luck!

As was Colin Dexter (of Inspector Morse fame). Actually, he was more than a fan. He set cryptics.norrin2 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 16, 2020 11:59 amYo0u need to rectify this posthaste. P.G. Wodehouse is one of the funniest writers ever. And he was a crossword fan.

Got the grid but am, yet again, struggling with the Meta. This is only my 3rd week so still gotta get the juices flowing. Eventually got last week's meta with a nudge to kick start the ol noggin. Likely will need one again this week...
