This week's contest is titled "Rename That Tune" by Matt Gaffney

The answer to this week's contest crossword is an eight-letter word that describes some song lyrics.

Below is a picture of the muggles in the weekly Zoom conference Tuesdays at 7:30 pm EDT. Also on the call was Jay Miller.

Um... hello? Am I actually the first onshore?!

I LOVED this meta but am biting my tongue until Monday. Boy do I have an annoying video to post for you all post-deadline :D

Lullaby, gullaby,
Isn’t it interesting?
Eight little letters are
Hidden so well!

Finding them proves to be
Aphrodisiacal!
So, too, does beaching a-
Head of the swell!

I don't consider Matt's latest confection such an easy solve, but somehow I got into the zen of it immediately upon filling the grid. It still needed a bit of work, but the meta was right there! I haven't even chilled the glass, but I did restock the gin and olives, so I'm all set for a nice long weekend! Happy solving, everyone!

BTW, sorry I missed Zooming with you on Tuesday. I actually had another Zoom call. I'll hope to join the next one!

On shore. Quickly saw which direction to jump off the ship, but my feet got a little tangled as I was swimming. I'm opting for coffee and control of the juke box.

Bob, thank you for posting the Zoom picture. It was a very enjoyable evening and so nice to discover some of the faces and voices behind all these wonderul posts.

I am now going to reveal my tele-conference naivete... I had noticed that Zoom showed me a mirror-image of myself, even in the gallery view as the image you posted above. I kind of assumed that was some function of either my web-cam or the Zoom software, and it does make a lot of sense - we are used to seeing ourselves in a mirror. But I was tickled to see that Zoom projects a corrected image to the rest of the participants. I think that's such a thoughtful little touch - to take the trouble to show us to ourselves the reversed way we are used to seeing ourselves, but to everyone else as they usually see us.

Hooray, I'm finally aboard!

Or are we supposed to go ashore?

Looking forward to seeing how clever Matt is this week.
For nudges, feel free to PM me. I won't have a clue how to help you, but you might shove me ashore.

Could be my ancient monitor, but I'm having trouble reading the names. Do you mind providing a "top row from left" kind of listing of who's who in this delightful photo?

And, oh, BTW ...

On shore!

Good one!

A combination of pixelization due to file size, your monitor, and old eyes.

Top row (L-R) yourpalsal, me (photo as my computer camera is broken), Joe Ross, Wendy Walker
Second row Kay Whitman, Steve b( beck), Scott Trerotola (streroto), Heidi
Third row Meg Duvall, Claudia (screen name whimsy as pointed out by Joe Ross), Marie (screen name rexthree), Jay Livingston (screen name Bird Lives)
Fourth row SewYoung (aka Lisa), Brian Mac (to whom we owe a continuing debt of gratitude), Peter Abide, Tom Bassett (MajorDomoTom)

Ashore, submitted, and lucky to have solved this "quickly." Another gem, Matt!

Good luck, muggles.

Tough grid. Not sure I should even attempt the meta - might be better off just working on a puzzle from Matt Gafney's book.

I can never solve the music ones - especially if you need to know song titles or lyrics!

Ashore! OMG! The grid was pretty easy, the motorboat to shore stumped me for a while, then I got it, but I still couldn’t reach the beach for another 45 minutes while the thing that had to work just wasn’t working. And I chased my wife away twice with a muttered “I’m very busy” while I was knocking it this way and that. And then, aaaaaah...... So satisfying! :D :D :D

Matt Gaffney, genius!

I observed a long time ago that if others think the meta is clever, then I am in trouble. Grid is done, but I’m with Isaac for now.

There it is - on shore! That one required a dinner break. Now for a beverage break!

And thanks to Bob and everyone who consented for the picture - a great looking group!

Ashore! That was cute. I don't think it was perfectly executed, but still cute.

I have a feeling that being partially tone deaf isn't going to be a plus with this one.

With only 1 page of messages 4 hours after posting I'd suspect this is a tough one. I'm still LAS.
