#647 - "Time to Reorder"

An excellent puzzle written by one of the innovators of the meta crossword format. It comes out every Friday at noon and increases in difficulty throughout the month. Available for modest subscription (worth every cent) here: www.xwordcontest.com

I hesitated with this one while I considered ENTIRETIES. It's one more re-ordering as called for in the title, and tough metas can require looking at the entire puzzle. Decided to stick with ETERNITIES because while tough metas may require either, good metas don't require an arbitrary anagram of a perfectly good answer.

I loved the bonus muggle entries in the lower part of the puzzle - MUG, STARTREK, USS (even if the examples didn't include Enterprise)

I should have gotten this one. Since this was a Week 4, I was thinking way too outside the box instead of simply looking at the top row as the numbers indicate. Not a full KAS 4 but like a KAS 3.9.

Was there a hint that we're supposed to use the first row?

Each digit in the theme answers corresponded to a numbered cell in the grid. Taking them in the order presented of

5 3 8 1 9 6 0 2 4 7 gives you the meta answer.
E T E R N I T I E S

0=T as the correct answer for 1A is Trite, with the T sitting outside the grid in the zero position.

Yes I understand the mechanism, but was there a hint/tip that we should use the first row?

None other than the individual digits.

I don't know if Matt intended this as a relief from 0=T, but if you though of 0 as a substitute for 10, 10=T also worked.
