#610 - "There Will Be Blood"

An excellent puzzle written by one of the innovators of the meta crossword format. It comes out every Friday at noon and increases in difficulty throughout the month. Available for modest subscription (worth every cent) here: www.xwordcontest.com

This week’s contest answer is a Best Picture nominee this weekend.

I entered the leaderboard as Hecto, which . . . , oh well! I was never going to have a long streak anyway. But Matt generously added my trailing R. I enjoyed the film; not sure it's Best Picture material, tho.

Do I need to have seen any of the Best Picture nominees to understand this meta?

I've seen none of the nominees, as is my usual practice. I can stare at a meta for days, but I don't have the attention span for movies at all.

Hector, I am going to call you "Hecto" from now on. It has a nice ring to it ;-)

I don't have a trailing R, but I do admit to having a wandering I.

Got it. Maybe a week 1.5 for me, since I did have to Google the list of Best Picture nominees to get my brain working.

I'm with the list-googling landing party. I've seen two of the movies - one of them just this week, neither of them the meta answer.

Beam me up! Hmm, three incorrect entries within the first hour. I have a feeling I know which of the films the three incorrect answers were, because it was my gut reaction to choose it upon googling the list. Then I noticed something else... Can’t say more for fear of a spoiler.

Beam me up-fun puzzle! I needed to Google the nominees also. I have seen only one of the movies, 1917, which I didn’t particularly enjoy. Rain and cool weather is forecast for Sunday out here so the red carpet may be a little soggy.

I was going to suggest a beer, but PGWCC is also a good choice. Or both!

Beam me up as well. In stark contrast to the other puzzles this week (for me), this was my quickest solve to date.
