On shore with a bottle of Prosecco, practicing for tomorrow night. Can't afford the really good stuff two nights in a row!

Happy New Year to all!

Ashore!

No potables with which to celebrate, but a heartwarming tale for those of you in northern climes: I'm stretched out in a tent with my wife and children in the middle of Everglades National Park (where I miraculously have cell signal) and am listening to the brisk wind rush off the Florida Straits at a lovely 72°F into clear skies overhead.
An unsolved meta would have cast the only pall over this perfect night, so I thank the crossword mavens for their providence.

I sure hope you will post them on Monday along with the methods used to see them. I worry, of course, that the answer I submitted will be found to be wrong. But I sure think it is a good answer to the point of feeling that it had better be the right answer. And I sure hope I started 2021 on the right foot.

Thought I had it one hundred percent
But now I hear sounds of dissent
An answer count of two?!
I would heartily boo
A Matt Gaffney New Year’s Eve pageant!

(Ok, I’ll leave verse to the pros. But now will go back to grid to see if I can find the “other answer”)

p.s. I would never really boo MG. Only myself if I blew it 😉

I'm on shore. I was having trouble saying something about how obvious the answer was without getting into spoiler territory. Before I'd solved it, I had trouble coming up with something that was a 4 word phrase.

Happy New Year!
if it's not the 4 word phrase I submitted, I have a very solid argument for it being the correct answer.

it's loose, if we're on the same beach.
There's a solid connection to the title.

On shore. I think.

Just looked again. This is a 100%er. Very clever.

Happy New Year!

Anyone notice that 4 of the last 6 have had a number in the title? Anyone think they're building to a meta meta puzzle?

I also see one very obvious solution, so look forward to hearing about another possibility. On shore, btw.

Ashore. Slept on it to be sure, in light of comments saying folks saw two answers. I see only one, and it looks 100% to me.

Mark was browsing through the Forum comments last night and observed that there seem to be two kinds of Muggles: those who want to win and those who are just happy that they got the meta.
W: Which one am I?
M: [meaningful look]
W: Oh, come on. I was on page 3 this week and wasn't upset at all!
M: But you NOTICED you were on page 3!
W: [small voice] Number 45.
Good luck, fellow Muggles!
