You mean that the armagnac I've been ordering all these years isn't from Yerevan, or even Watertown?

I was just now able to look at this, and got it pretty fast, it's nice to be on the beach this time of year.

I forgot that the puzzle came out earlier this afternoon, but it was a quick solve. Another great one from Mike!

Another one where my first instinct led right to the shore.

Total time from starting puzzle to submitting meta answer was 16 minutes, most of which was spent on the grid.

I started doing these metas in mid-2016 and since then, I have aspired to score 100% for an entire calendar year. I haven't come very close to that lofty goal, but I have tied my personal best with 43 for this year. If I get next week's, it will be a new high for me, but with a Roger Maris asterisk (you youngsters can Google that) since it will be the 53rd WSJ meta of the year.

But at least I'm consistent: my full-year totals have been 40, 43, 41, and now 43 again. Along the way, I've gotten some hard ones and missed too many easy ones, so you never know.

Anyway, Happy Holidays everyone!

Well I don't know. Nairi is the 20 year variety from the Yerevan Cognac Factory, in Yerevan. I have been unable to buy it here in Houston, but can't say if it is available in any other large city. We buy it in Moscow and bring it back once a year.

Ashore! Somehow, it never occurred to me that the contest crossword would arrive a day early, but ... all’s well that ends well ... an easy solve and an easy meta ... in short, a Christmas gift! Thank you, Mike!

Nice to have an easy one. For anyone desiring a more challenging meta, Al Sisti has a meta tomorrow morning at Muggle Meta Monday site. And my meta finishes up tomorrow.
The site is just a web page, a meeting place, a clubhouse - it's the group that's special.
