On shore.
I had some problems with the last puzzle titled "Two by Two", also by Mike Shenk, but this was the easiest one we've had in a while.
It wasn't until after I had the answer that I realized why the puzzle was built this way.
Poor Isaac, he's going to be spending Thanksgiving alone.

Staying aboard. Cooked the family turkey dinner and enjoyed it well. Looked for the puzzle at 4:10 but only saw prior posts about an intern with lack of support. Decided to wait til after dinner and a little TV. Got the puzzle later nad filled in the across lite while watching TV. Solved the grid but I am now sucked into a PBS special about "The Mayflower" called "The Pilgrims" on our local PBS station. Will sleep of the turkey coma and leave the meta for the morning.
Happy Thanksgiving all.
Happy Thanksgiving all.

Ashore! Solved the meta while watching the PBS special at about 1630 AD.

Solved, finally, after the Byelorussian kvass wore off.
I printed the pdf from billum, but couldn't see what was happening with the meta. (I also struggled a bit with the grid. Not a speed solve this week.) The puzzle felt weird not being in the official format. Then I printed the WSJ version, started filling in the grid mostly from memory, and the mechanism became obvious.
First attempt = KAS 3+
Second attempt = KAS 1+

To paraphrase Chief Brody, You're gonna need a bigger shore.

It would be nice if we could find a permanent place to post the link to the latest contest puzzle in Across Lite format:
http://tinyurl.com/mugglespuz
Every Thursday, at about 4:07 PM ET, it switches to the new contest puzzle.
In any case, it might be a good URL to bookmark.
As long as I'm here plugging the link, I'll add my name to the list of folks on shore, waiting for a table to be scrubbed clean. Everyone is well spaced, making the beach look like a rookery for masked boobies.
