First time ever solving and posting on page one. And before the Great Al? One can only assume he's preoccupied with something other than the puzzle right now...

I'm new, and I'm ashore! I only found out about these contests a few weeks ago, and since then have stared angrily at my weekly completed grids with no contest solution. But this week, huzzah! Excited to be here!

This post reminds me of walking by the alligators on the Anhinga Trail in the Everglades many years ago!

Ashore!

I liked this one. Here was my sequence for solving: (1) Completed the grid, (2) stared for a while, (3) drifted off to a nap, (4) awoke with fresh eyes, and (5) soon saw the way.

This has been my method on quite a few of these late-Thursday-afternoon WSJCCs.

There you go, pup; that splint should hold for a while... no no, down boy! No need to thank me... it was a pleasure to save your life; you'd have done the same for me. So, you all set now? There's a good boy...run along home. And now... well, it's late, but I guess I've still got time to solve a meta.

Toes in the sand… Guinness me please?

Ashore.

I’m glad I could get back to meta puzzles after the last two weeks. Election jitters and COVID lassitude gave me the attention span of a TikToker.

Hey, on the very rare occasion, it's possible for the NY Jets to beat the KC Chiefs. You being the Chief with a capital C.

Fortunately Isaac is serving prosecco with shrimp cocktail.

At least I learnt a new word with 6 across.
I think that word was in a WSJ meta about 6 months ago!
