Fun (?) fact:
Portland, Oregon is split into five main sections: NE, SE, SW, NW, and North Portland wedged in between NE & NW. There is a bar in North Portland called The Fifth Quadrant, which I can name drop when I teach graphing in Algebra 1 (in community college).

Ashore, and it’s already getting hard to find a spot for the sunbrella! We’ll aim to have the Muggle Meetup on zoom Tuesday at 5pmPT/8pmET. Link to come. Looking forward!

Ashore. Finally.

Looks like the site is still broken. The PDF is useless to me because I haven't owned a printer in years. But is everyone familiar with this site: https://www.fleetingimage.com/wij/xyzzy/20-wsj.html ?

It publishes every day's WSJ puzzle as a .puz file for solvers who use software like AcrossLite. I always get the puzzle from this site because I like using AcrossLite. Anyway, it finally showed up there.

Lot of people out here on the beach!
Happy to give nudges. If you notice I've solved, please tell me about avenues you've explored so I can nudge you in the right direction and not off a cliff.

Thank you Joe! I was searching for that today, but couldn’t remember it. I will bookmark. Although I had a printer this time, I have solved with graph paper before (I prefer graph paper, so I always have a notebook around).

Reminds me of the “Third Base Saloon” in Boston, the last stop before home.

you probably haven't seen
My problem was that I misspelled the Firth -- the firth mistake like that I've made in a long time. But you're right -- I haven't seen the movies, and don't intend to. FWIW, someone I know worked on a film with him and says he was "difficult" (she used a noun, not an adjective).

Very glad that I took a second look through the swim goggles before reaching the correct shore.

Ashore. I feel like I'm cheating just by coming here and checking the difficulty level. If I don't immediately see something, I assume it must be very tricky, then I get nowhere, then I come here and the difficult rating is 1 star, and all of a sudden when I look back at the puzzle the answer pops out. The problem is I know in the back of my mind I can come here and check, so I don't always flesh out all the options before checking.

The address for WSJ's online solving web page was available, briefly, but it allows for checking & solving for grid answers & the entire grid, which is usually not available for Friday contest crosswords. Thanks for the fleetingimage site.
